This year’s Grammys were dominated by Robert Plant and Alison Krause after they won 5 awards for Raising Sand. Their biggest award was for the coveted Album of the Year. Plant seemed to be a little short on gratitude in his acceptance speech saying, "In the old days, we would've called this selling out." Maybe he was just bitter that Zep never won a Grammy and his duet partner is the most Grammy Award winning female in history. Or maybe he’s just a grumpy old rock God. In addition to album of the year, they also won four other trophys including Country Collaboration and Best Contemporary Folk / Americana Album. I wonder who decides if something is Contemporary Folk, Americana, Bluegrass, Country etc. I’d like that job. Rich Woman is at the to of my Top 100 Country Songs Other winners included Brad Paisley (Best Male Country Performance), Carrie Underwood (Best Female Country Vocal Performance), and Sugar land (Best Country Song and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals).
The award for Best Country Instrumental Performance with to Brad Paisley’s Cluster Pluck.
Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift performed a sweet duet with the Swift-penned Fifteen. MTV reported Swift saying, "It's so fun to get up there with one of your friends and get to perform on the Grammys." Swift and Cyrus also released a song called The Climb to the internet last week.
We were treated to a great performance of Kenny Chesney’s Better as a Memory which included a string section.
Keith Urban leant his guitar talent to both the Justin Timberlake/Al Green performance of the classic Lets Stay Together and a Tribute to Bo Diddley. The Bo Diddley tribute included guitar greats BB. King, Buddy Guy and John Mayer.
It was a great night for Country music and music in general. Plant/Krause may have brought Nashville to an even larger audience this year.
